What To Do With My 1St S70?!?!
1991 Volvo 740 2.3L Turbo Upgrades?
Hi Guys,
I am new to the forum here. My uncle has a 1991 740 T with a blown turbo.
The turbo needs replacing, wondering what options are there that are bolt-on?
I heard from a fellow over at turbobricks that a 850 Turbo would bolt-on the 740T.
Now the question, which part do I need?
TD04HL-16T 49189-01350.
or
TD04HL-15G 49189-01310.
If anyone else has any other ideas please let me know. The turbo needs to be replaced so the car can get back on the road!
Meanwhile... Time to fix that stupid cold solder fix on the dash!
Centered Volvo Badge On 870 Wagon?
Does anyone have pictures of the oem volvo badge placed in the center under the rear window on an 870 wagon? I can't figure out if this would look good or not. I'm thinking I might put some spacing between the letters.
Whiteblock Cam Discussion Thread
Hello everyone,
As you may have seen I originally created a thread in the member announcements board to see if there was any interest in an ENEM cam group buy.
I quickly realized I jumped the gun and was no where near ready to even begin to think about buying cams due to all of the options and such.
I decided to create this thread so we can all pool information on the cams available for our cars as well as upgraded valve springs, etc. Also because I would like to purchase cams but I want to get the most out of my money for how expensive they are and im sure everyone else does.
Here are the following options I'm currently aware of:
Camshafts:
- Enem Cams (http://www.enem.se) - Available models according to viva performance - http://www.vivaperformance.com/performance-camshafts-volvo/ They have both N head and RN head camshafts available in many different off the shelf designs as well as custom cuts.
- Cat Cams (http://catcams.com) - Here are the models available from them http://www.catcams.com/engines/camshaft-setup.aspx They only offer N cams as of now.
- KM Cams (http://www.kmcams.com) - They offer 3 different models for N heads only. http://kmcams.com/products/volvo-5cyl-20v-steg-1 http://kmcams.com/products/volvo-5cyl-20v-steg-2 http://kmcams.com/products/volvo-5cyl-20v-steg-3
- Autotech Motor - From Sweden. Apparently they offer custom grinds based on your setup in either cast or billet. Im trying to get more information. http://volvospeed.com/vs_forum/topic/167753-autotech-motor-finally-here/page-4#entry2361032
- Redline Racing Cams (http://www.redlineracingcams.com/) - According to an older thread this company will do welds and regrind on stock cams. http://volvospeed.com/vs_forum/topic/130399-anyone-know-where-to-get-aftermarket-cams/
- American Custom (http://www.americancustomcam.com/)- Once again according the the thread linked in Redline Racing Cams, this company will weld and regrind cams.
Springs and Retainers:
- Enem Cams (http://www.enem.se) - They offer a few spring combinations. You will have to search the part number on their site I cannot link directly. Option 1: 10-05-825 (single spring for RN heads, max 10.5mm lift), Option 2: 10-20-032 (dual springs and retainers for N head max 12.5mm lift), Option 3: 10-20-030 (Single spring for N head, max 12.5mm lift). Remember their website prices include 25% VAT tax, please remove 25% if you do not need to pay VAT.
- Cat Cams - According to their website they can develop kinds on demand. BlackT5 purchased a kit from here, if you could post more information it would be greatly appreciated.
- Autotech Motor - According to this thread they stock race springs http://volvospeed.com/vs_forum/topic/130399-anyone-know-where-to-get-aftermarket-cams/
This is all the information I was able to come up with, if anyone else has any more information please post it up so we can start pooling all available options.
I have been trying to get in contact with KM cams because for my car I would like to get either their Stage 2 or Stage 3 cams along with ENEM 10-20-030 springs. I also plan on using an N head that is ported, 3 angle valve job and gasket matched, etc ,etc.
Thanks,
~Matt

V70 T5 2001 Aut. Lost 10Hp With Bsr Stage 1
Hi guys I'm really confused about this, before the BSR stage 1 remap my car had 252.9bhp/341.2nm(251 lb-ft)
and after I've lost 10hp 241.2bhp/342nm. All tests done on the same dyno
The engine is newly serviced.
New vacuum lines, fuel/oil/air filter, lambda sonda, PCV system and BCV solenoid, oil change, gearbox flush after new valve body, MAF sensor.
Guess its safe to assume the engine is running properly when its producing 252.9bhp/341.2nm stock?
perhaps anyone have a clue what I've done wrong or what could be the cause of this
Copied from my original thread on another forum hoping to get some ideas
Stock dyno run
Sorry for spelling/grammar English is not my native language

Damaged Valve Tubes In Cylinder Head
Attempted to change the valve seals on my t5-r today, and it went pretty bad. When i tried to grip on to the valve seal i thought that the inside of it would come along aswell, but as it turns out there is a long tube inside it. I used a noseplier and stuck it in there and pulled/wiggled.
This made some damage at the very top of this tube that sits in the head. I tried sanding down the corner edges inside the tube with some fine sanding paper, but there is still some marks further in. Also managed to make a tiny vertical scratch in the valve, could not get it on camera.
So I'm planning on changing the valve for one thats in the other head i've got lying around, but this tube I speak of, is it pressed in to the head? Have i messed up up the cylinder head??
Volvonor's Build Thread
Hi everyone. Almost ready to get started on my rebuild and I've read through a lot of the RN threads on the forum.
The transmission is a M66EA31 pulled from an '05 V70 AWD with a D5244T (around 150k miles) and the engine, a B5254T2, was pulled from an '05 S60 (70k miles).
The plan is to (hopefully) land at around 400AWHP and I want to keep the 9.0:1 compression ratio as I really like the torque in the lower register on my current engine.
I've started disassembly of the engine and I'm waiting for the cam lock tool to be able to continue. This will be a complete build with H-beams/pistons, new bearings/seals etc.,
NA intake and TB
Haven't decided on turbo yet, but probably a garret of some kind(need advice).
I'm looking for some info on the gear ratios of the EA31 as I don't have vida yet. Google left me with nothing. Advice on SM flywheel, clutch and PP would also be greatly appreciated.
I hope my english isn't too bad as it isn't my native tongue...

How Easy Is It To Install Lowering Springs On A 93 850?
Hey so I have a 93 850 glt and I wanna put lowering springs in but I'm not sure if it will be easy enough for me or not. The only thing I've really done with suspension is replacing shocks. So I've never worked with coils or struts or anything. I'm only lowering it 1.5 so I don't think I need to replace my shocks atleast that's what I've read around is the max before you gotta get new shocks as well.
So my question is how easy of a DIY is it on my 850? And how much does it cost for a shop to do the spring swap?
Motronic 4.4 Tcv Solenoid Frequency
Hi,
I am currently trying to decide which turbo to take and one of the few options I am considering are the EFR turbo chargers by Borg Warner.
They come with their own TCV / solenoid. So far, so good. But the tech spec says that the frequency of the PWM input should be less than 32Hz.
Anybody know what the frequency the Motronic 4.4 sends to the TCV is like?
Thanks
Christoph
What Muffler To Buy?
Hi guys!
Got a -99 V70 T5 and I want to buy a muffler to replace that big bucket underneath. Got few questions I'd love to get answered so I don't buy the wrong muffler.
1. What size muffler to buy. 2.25'' or 2.5?
2. How should the inlet and outlet pipes be? (Center - center) or (offset - center) or (offset - offset)
3. Do I need to buy 45 degree bends?
Confused about this so I would really be grateful for some help from you guys if you have any help or links to a muffler you've recently bought and wasn't to hard to put on. Doesn't have to be Flowmaster or Magnaflow. Just something that is of a proven quality brand and that's not too quite but not race loud.
Thanks a lot fellas
Good Speakers For Doors In 850?
There are threads with suggestions for speakers from as long ago as 10 years, but I figure there are newer options, especially since some have been discontinued since then.
I'm considering the following:
MB Quartz RCE 213 5.25" (discontinued)
I am currently powering my speakers using an older Alpine MRP-F200 amp that I was recommended many years ago.
Which speakers would you guys recommend? I want more low end without the need to add a sub or kick panels.
S60 R Engine Swap Into 98 S70
Well im starting to save up to swap my high mile smokey motor in my s70GLT. Iv been looking into the S60R engines(witch range anywhere from $1200+). Im going to stick with automatic for the time being tell i get a little more knowledge on the manual swap. What I would like to know is does the automatic transmission bolt up to the newer engine and would i have to get a special fly wheel or anything?
Clutch Opinions - What Should I Get?
I am needing some opinions on clutches. Currently my car is at a shop waiting for me to supply them with all the parts I want installed. My current transmission pops out of second gear so I am going to give the shop a good transmission out of my parts car after I remove it and install a Quaife LSD into it.
After some internetting, I have narrowed down what I think I want: either a Clutch Net Stage 2 or 3 clutch and pressure plate or a SPEC Stage 2+ or 3 clutch and pressure plate.
Currently I am stock 16T with open exhaust and intake at stock boost. Sometime this year hopefully, I will be upgrading to a 20T turbo, green injectors, and accompanying tune for stock internals. I'm not sure the exact horsepower numbers I can expect, but from reading up I think this set up will be adequate for me. I am pretty confident that an 850R clutch is not going to be sufficient as a long term option. This car is my daily driver and I want it to still be tolerable to drive, but handle the horsepower that my engine will soon generate. I am not one to complain about driving a manual. I just have never driven a car with a performance clutch so I'm not sure what to expect as far as leg workouts.
With stock internals 20T power in a daily driver, which clutch set up would you get and why? What clutches and power levels are you guys running and how do you like them? Is one brand garbage and the other gold? Thanks!
