'95R Tranny Into '96 Turbo, Funky Shifting

I just finished my trans repair on my 96 850.  The original tranny shifted too hard and slipped on the highway.  I had flushed the fluid a few months ago but the conditions didn't improve.  My new transmission shifts great, nice and smooth blah blah blah but I had to wire the vehicle speed sensor signal into the ABS from the driver's side.  Do I need to use the TCU from the t5R or should my '96 TCU be okay?  At wot, the shifting is delayed at higher rpm and shifting occurs around 5,500rpm instead of 6,000 or 6,200 (wherever it's supposed to be).  When it does shift, there is a hesitation.

 

Does anyone have experience with this?  Putting the tranny in "econ" makes upshifting worse compared to "sport" in regards to the hesitation.
