Hi everyone, I am relatively new to this forum. Just wanted to post a few pictures of the tear down and rebuild of my somewhat rare turbo wagon. The car is a 1998 Volvo V70 AWD with a 5 spd manual transmission. The motor is a B5254T low pressure turbo, TD04HL 13G to be specific. I have already upgraded the turbo to a 16T with a tuned ECU from Lucky at ARD tuning. At this time the car has never seen more than 8-10 psi running off a manual boost controller. The tuned ECU is programmed to run at 14-15psi paired with the ARD boost control solenoid.
This is the first time I have dug so deep into this car so I am hoping to hear feedback and comments as the project progresses. I will also have lots of questions as time goes on so I also hope volvospeed members can answer them as best as they can.
So why the rebuild? I believe the head gasket went and I was starting to burn a little oil so I figured I would tear it down and check everything. For now I plan to get the block and head machined and the cylinder honed as little as possible so I don’t need to get over bored pistons. I am not sure if I want to upgrade to aftermarket pistons and rods yet as I plan to only run 15psi max and to save little cost.
Today is May 4, 2014. The motor is out of the car and almost completely torn down. I plan to take the parts to the machine shop next week then order parts depending on what they say about the block and head.
Below are some pics as of now that I thought I would share:
