Plasti Dip Gloss Review

So Last year I tried my hand at painting my bumper. Initial results were very good.

I cant find a very good picture but this might give you an idea of how it turned out. It had good gloss, was the correct color, and after polishing, very little orange peel.

However, after a long winter ( and I believe, the wrong primer   ) the paint started to pit and chip. Until it got to this point...

So I decided it was time to paint or replace it. SInce I had already established I wasn't very good at painting and a R bumper was too expensive at the time I decided to try out the new Plastii Dip Gloss I had been hearing about. I have had good results with Plasti Dip before when I painted my wheels. It is extremely easy and forgiving to work with.

Here is the result after 3 cans of plasti dip ( I decided even if it looked shitty, by god it was going to be strong!) and two to three cans of gloss.

Overall I am happy with the improvement over the chipped bumper. And it looks good enough for me to keep it until I can afford an R bumper or have an XC professionally painted.

It doesn't quite color match, Its more of a gun metal grey than black. But it has a good shine to it, much more than regular flat plastidip. Also, because I was doing this on the ultra cheap, the only prep I did was to clean the bumper. The plasti dip covers up minor imperfections well and still sticks to deep scratches and gashes. If I were to try this again in the future, I would use less gloss and see if I could retain some more of the original black color.

Total cost was about $50.
