Tune Or Should I Just Manually Change Things?

Hey guys!

Excuse my limited knowledge in this area, but then again, I wouldn't be asking if I already knew.

I am looking into doing some modifications on my car to get the most out of the turbo and the engine. I have the stock turbo in there right now, and although I would love to drop a 19T and get a 3" downpipe that leads to a high flow cat, it's expensive and I don't think it is in the cards right now. What I do want to know though, with my stage 0 being pretty good, is the best route for getting the most power out of my turbo without hurting the car a tune, or should I just bypass the boost solenoid with a manual or electric boost controller and keep it at around 10-12 PSI? I've heard it will help with decreasing the turbo lag and offer a pretty substantial increase in power. I have also heard that it is one of the easiest ways to kill your engine so I have that worry as well. I already have a boost gauge and I run at about 10 PSI stock. The turbo lag isn't too bad either. What is the advantage of doing the tune rather than manually adjusting things like the boost from the turbo. Also, what else should I do aside from having a pretty good stage 0 before doing either a tune or putting a manual boost controller on there.

My next modification I want to do is lower the car a bit with the IPD or H&R lowering springs to put a bit more compression on the tires so upon launch I have less wheel spin, because it can be tough to get a good launch without spinning the tires pretty good. Plus around turns, if you give it a lot of gas, same problem at low speeds. I have also wanted to upgrade the wheels for a while now so I am going to do that come summer (Vision 16X7). That's going to require new tires as well.

Thanks guys,

Max
