Unexpected problem guys
I ordered an S60R (P/N 31367642) clutch from IPD to use with my Kalmar-Union SMF(M66 version) for my M66 swap into my 96' 850 T5. The KU SMF is supposed to be a direct replacement to the OE DMF which I can verify from past experience, is accurate. The S60R clutch kit I ordered though, has a significantly shorter stack height (from the bottom of the flywheel to the fingers on top of the pressure plate) as compared to the 850R clutch kit I have currently with the M56 on the car. I spoke to Don from Kalmar Union and he says that there might be a variance between the standard common S60R clutch and the clutch I got (he told me that Hussein ran into the same problem with his XR). Don tells me that the S60R clutch kit guaranteed to work with the KU SMF is P/N 30783258. Can anyone chime in and see if the two clutch kits interchange? So far from my limited search on a few sites I see no part interchange between the two clutch kits. I have an AP Racing Clutch (the same one Hussein and a few other guys are running) and when I put the AP Clutch and Pressure plate on top of the KU SMF the stack height is the same as the 850R clutch currently on the car.
If my S60R clutch/pressure plate can't be used with the KU SMF because of incorrect stack height, would it be possible to use the disc from the PN 31367642 clutch on my 850R flywheel and pressure plate? I measured the band of friction material on the S60R clutch disc (~41mm, ~35mm for the 850R disc) and the band of friction material on the 850Rs pressure plate (~35mm).... this would translate in the 850R pressure plate not being able to clamp ~6mm of friction material on the S60R clutch... I'm not sure if this would have any implications on the lifespan of the disc itself.
Worst case scenario, if neither the S60R clutch/pressure plate can be used on the KU SMF or the S60R disc can't be used on the 850R pressure plate/flywheel, I can always resort to the KU-AP Kit that I have... but I really don't want to use that (that kit is destined to be used in my S80). The 850 NEEDS to be working by friday so I need to get something sorted out ASAP.
Thanks!!!
If I get time today I'll take pics of the stack height differences of all 3 clutch/flywheel combinations. The only thing I didn't do as yet was take a pic of the S60R clutch/pressure plate on the 850 flywheel but I'm sure the stack height will still be much shorter since the S60R pressure plate is much shorter than the AP or 850R pressure plate
