2000 V70R: Decision Time Following Transmission Failure

Well, after 193K miles (and no warning) the Auto transmission in my 2000 V70R finally decided to crap the bed.  Assuming that a fluid change or other band aid fixes don't resolve the Third Gear Ratio error code, it's decision time.

The car is really hardly ever driven, so down time is not that big of a deal.  However, I like the car and don't want to sell it.  I've always wanted to convert it to a manual but I am not looking for massive power or to go down the road of extensively modifying it.

Here are the options I've thought of; anyone have any other ideas?  I suppose these range from mild to wild.

1.  Have a shop rebuild the trans that's on there.

2.  Find a used 5-speed auto trans from a V70R on car-part or a similar site and install that.

3.  Buy a wrecked lower mile 2004-2007 S60R or V70R, part it out, and keep the engine and M66 trans and drop them in (and then perform all of the attendant upgrades).  There is nothing wrong with the motor but I figure if I'm going to the trouble I may as well refresh the powerplant, right?

4.  Something else?
